Music

The definition of music
Music is organized sound so that it contains a rhythm, song, and harmony, especially the sound produced from the tools that can generate rhythm. Hearing the music also is a kind of entertainment. Music is a very unique phenomenon that can be produced by several musical instruments.

1. The effects of listening to music
a) Positive Impacts
  • To cope stress and anxiety
Music can help deal with the stress and anxiety associated with having treatment for coronary heart disease.
A review of 23 studies covering almost 1,500 patients found that listening to music reduced heart rate, blood pressure and anxiety in heart disease patients (Brandt & Dileo, 2009).
  •  As a media treatment
Music can be one of the media treatments for some diseases.  O'Sullivan (1991) suggested that music affects the imagination, intelligence and memory, as well as affect the pituitary in the brain to release endorphins. Endorphins we know can reduce pain, so as to reduce the use of analgesics, also reduce levels of catecholamine in the blood, so the heart rate decreases. Insomniacs who listen to classical piano for four weeks improved sleep. This therapy increases the levels of melatonin, a brain chemical that encourages restful sleep.  In addition, based on the research Campbell, music can also build the immune system.
  •  Improve intelligence
Listening to music can give a positive impact on brain development.  Grace Sudargo, musician and educator says, "Fundamentals of classical music in general comes from the rhythm of the human pulse so that it plays a major role in brain development, the formation of the soul, the character, even the human body". Herry Chunagi research results (1996) and Siegel (1999) also showed that the ability of mathematics, logic, language, music, and emotion in children is the influence of music.

 b) Negative impacts
  • Blunts the moral
David A. Nobel found that the rhythm of rock music can disrupt insulin levels and calcium in the body. Our brain food sources derived from sugar in the blood, but when more blood flows to other organs, the brain will be a shortage of sugar. It makes the power of thought and moral considerations someone be blunt.
  • Impair the ability of hearing
Research conducted in the US found that 40% of adolescents and young adults at risk of hearing loss caused by loud noise at a nightclub, bar, or other places, as reported by the Daily Mail (03/03/2015). WHO added that the habit of listening to sounds above 85 decibels for 8 hours or 100 decibels for 15 minutes is very harmful to the ears. Headsets usually have a volume of between 75-136 decibels, and the majority of people set the volume average between 75-105 decibels. In place voiced loud music, usually the average noise level is 104-112 decibels. Besides in concert the average sound far above it.
  • Affect the way children think
Adult love song lyrics are often heard by children, whereas the lyrics are often offensive sexuality. Recent studies of Cougar Hall, published in Springer's journal Sexuality and Culture said that the sexual references in the song could make children think their worth in the order of society is to provide sexual satisfaction to others, risk despise meaning his body, depression, problems with food, drug abuse, and more.

2. Indonesia Music Flows
Indonesia has several styles of music. Those styles also get influence from outside, such as gambus and qasidah from music Islamic Middle East, keroncong from Portuguese influence, and dangdut gets influence from music Hindi.
  •  Keroncong
Keroncong formed since the Portuguese people entering Indonesia, which also carries the European musical instrument. At the beginning of the 1900s, music is considered low-quality music. This changed in 1930, when the Indonesian film industry began to join the keroncong music, and began to prevail over the next decade, when the music is connected with the struggle for independence.

One of the most famous songs keroncong is Bengawan Solo, written in 1940 by Gesang Martohartono, a musician from Solo. The song was written when the Imperial Japanese Army controlled the island of Java during World War II, the song (about the Bengawan Solo River, the longest and most important river in Java) became popular among the Javanese and famous across Indonesia when it began to be heard on the radio. The song was also popular among the Japanese army, so that when they returned to Japan after the war, many Japanese singers sing the song and made it a best-seller
  •  Dangdut
Dangdut is a popular form of dance music since the 1970s. These are some famous dangdut singers, such as Rhoma Irama and Elvy Sukaesih, as well as Inul, Evie Tamala, Mansour S., A. Rafiq, and Fahmy Shahab. This music is also known in Malaysia as a symbol of the Malay race (but not part of Malay culture).
  •  Indonesian Pop
