The definition of culture

    Culture (/ˈkʌlər/) is, in the words of E.B. Tylor, "that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society." (Tylor 1871:1).
 
Custom Homes in Indonesia
Indonesia is a multicultural country. Indonesia has more than 300 tribes, and each tribe has their own custom home. Here is several custom homes of Indonesia. 
1) A custom home of Aceh

Bade Krong house is a traditional house of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.The house Krong Bade is also commonly known as rumoh Aceh.






    


2) A custom home of West Sumatra
 
Tower House or Houses Godang is the name for the traditional Minangkabau house which is the traditional home and many have encountered in the province of West Sumatra, Indonesia. This house is also known by other names by local people with the name Home Bagonjong or there is also a mention by name Home Baanjuang.




3) A custom home of North Sumatra 
Bolon house is a traditional house of the Batak tribe in Indonesia. Home Bolon comes from North Sumatra. Houses Bolon is a symbol of the identity of the Batak people who live in North Sumatra.







4) A custom home of South Sumatra
Limas house is a prototype of a traditional home South Sumatra. Besides characterized by a pyramid-shaped roof, this traditional house has a floor terraced called Bengkilas and only used for the benefit of the family as a celebration. Guests usually accepted in the patio or second floor.



5) A custom home of West Borneo
Long House is one of the traditional house of West Borneo. The longhouse is the hallmark of Dayak people who live in areas of West Borneo. This is because the length of the house is a picture of the social life of the Dayak people in West Borneo.








 

6) A custom home of Papua
Honai is a typical house of Papua. Honai houses made of wood with a conical roof made of straw or reeds. Honai purposely built narrow or small and windowless which aims to resist the cold mountains of Papua. Honai usually built as high as 2.5 meters and in the middle of the house prepared a place to make a fire to warm them. Honai house is divided into three types, namely for men (called Honai), women (called Ebei), and pigsties (called Wamai). 



7) A custom home of Bali
Bentar gate temple is the name of the custom house Bali. Intake name Bentar Temple Gate, based on the shape of the building in the form of a gate. The gate is composed of two buildings of the temple was built parallel and similar which is the entrance gate to the yard. The gate does not have a roof over that separates the two temples, so both the building of the temple gate apparent visible separately, which connects the gate of the building is the form of stairs and iron railings into the driveway entrance. Around the gate of the building are statues which are a symbol of the culture of Bali.

8) A custom home of North Maluku




Baileo house is a traditional house of Maluku and North Maluku, Indonesia. Home Baileo represents Maluku culture and has a very important function for the life of the community.  Home Baileo is the identity of each country in Maluku apart from the Mosque or the Church. Baileo serves as a repository of sacred objects, where the ceremonies, as well as a community center. The main characteristic Baileo house is large in size, and has a different shape if compared to other houses in the vicinity.

9) A custom home of Sulawesi



Tongkonan is a traditional house of Toraja society. The roof is curved to resemble a boat, consisting of bamboo structure (currently partially tongkonan using a tin roof). On the front there is a row of buffalo horn. The inside of the room used as a bed and a kitchen. Tongkonan used also as a place to store the bodies. Tongkonan derived from the word tongkon (meaning seated together). Tongkonan divided by level or role in society (social stara Society Toraja). In front there tongkonan granary, called 'grass'. Granary poles are made from the trunk of a palm tree (Banga) today partly already casted. At the front of the barn there is a variety of carvings, including pictorial chicken and sun (called pa'bare 'allo), which is a symbol for a settlement to the case.


Indonesia’s Typical Food

     Indonesia has a typical food varied, because Indonesia is a multicultural country. Each region or tribe has its own specialties. The following are some typical food from several regions in Indonesia.
1) Typical food of West Borneo
a. Kerupuk basah is a typcal food from Kapuas Hulu









b.Bubur pedas (Spicy cooking porridge) in the Sambas
 







2) Typical food of Papua
a. Papeda (sagoo congee), kuah kuning (yellow soup), and ikan tude bakar (grilled fish)
 








3) Masakan rendang ( cooking rendang) from West Sumatra
