 What is Instagram?
Instagram is an online photo sharing and social networking service. It enables users to take pictures and apply digital filters to them and then share them on social networking sites. Instagram was launched in October 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mark Krieger. The service has been immensely popular with people active on social networking. At present, instagram has over 90 million users worldwide. Instagram supports all Apple products like iPhone, iPad, iPod and all camera phones having the Android operating system. 

Using instagram in teaching and learning process

In teaching and learning process, teachers and students can use instagram. Teachers can task students with documenting what is going on in the classroom, including experiments, projects and hands-on activities. Math students can use real world visual examples of fractions, geometric shapes and lines to explain their understanding of math theories. Foreign language classes can use instagram images to remember new vocabulary, or describe key features of a culture. In art classes, students can learn about composition, lighting, and framing. Manipulating images with instagram filters and cropping tools is a good method of promoting student creativity. Giving students the same set of images and seeing how each student creates a different visual piece can be a great way of promoting artistic and creative intelligence. 

The advantages and disadvantages of using instagram in teaching and learning process

a) The advantages

•   Help teachers find more people to follow on Instagram, building their professional network.

•  Teachers and student have evidence about their activities in teaching and learning process. It is used for them to do evaluation.

•  Parents can get in on the action by following the class Instagram account to see what happens in class each day.

•  Help students to improve creative and critical thinking skills.

b) The disadvantages

• Create distance between parents and children. According to Anthony Giddens, modernity makes the relationship of space and time is lost which then slowly separate room from the place.

•  The dangers of crime and kidnapping.
